The EFOG-EBCOG Part 2 OSCE is the final exam you have to pass to gain the European specialist recognition in O&G. The exam format is different from what you experienced in the EFOG Part 2 written exam. You have ten stations, each with a ten-minute time limit, to successfully complete the exam. What you must know is that there are no rest stations, and a single zero can cause you to fail.

Those candidates who clear this EFOG exam on their first attempt are not because they have superhuman memory, but because they follow smarter study techniques to crack the EFOG OSCE. In this blog, we’ll discuss how you can have a smarter approach to cracking this exam.

Build Fail-Proof Clinical Skills

The most common pitfall made by a candidate while preparing for the OSCE is that they waste their time watching random YouTube videos. That’s not what you should do. Here’s a pro tip:

  • Watch a video specifically featuring experts and observe closely. Then, record yourself performing every core skill 50-100 times: obstetric palpation, breech exam, speculum + bimanual, knot-tying, suturing. You can find a lot of such resources in the StudyMEDIC LMS 3.0.
  • Use a checklist and score yourself brutally as per EBCOG marking criteria
  • Try to perform every skill under 6 minutes.

Master Station Types One by One

Practice and master each station one by one. Taking one step at a time allows you to fully understand every step you should follow. You can find the list of the stations you should cover in your EFOG OSCE below:

  1. 4 Clinical Examination Stations: When you get the chance, practice pillows or dolls to perfect your techniques, as examiners do not care about realism, only techniques.
  2. 3 Communication and Counselling Stations: Practice and master the 3S formula: Signpost, Summaries, Safety-net. Record and review your communication skills, tone, eye contact,  and empathy phrases.
  3. 2 History+Management Stations: This station is where you should really practice timing, as it takes time. Here’s how you should divide your time: 2 min rapport + systematic questions, 3 min for summary, and 3 min for management plan. You must practice the “red flag drill” for ectopic, PPH, pre-eclampsia, and abnormal uterine bleeding.
  4. 1 Teaching/ Structures Viva Station: Have a companion, acting as a junior, with whom you can practice teaching CTG interpretation or instrumental delivery in exactly 8 minutes.

Full Circuits & Feedback Loop

Now, you must start doing full-time circuits each week. Here are some pro tips for your mock practices.

  • Use a timer and a partner as an examiner.
  • Score every domain you finish immediately (Knowledge, Skill, Attitude, Communication).
  • Practice and identify your weakest stations, and practice them multiple times the following week.
  • Repeat the mock until you score 8+ out of 10.

Daily Habits for Acing the EFOG Part 2 OSCE

  • When answering questions, speak them aloud.
  • Finish every station 45 seconds early.
  • Practice the stations with different partners every day.
  • Write every mistake you made and how you rectified them.
  • Use active recall flashcards for guidelines (GTG 2024-2025 updates)

Bonus Tips from Recent First-Attempt Clears

  • Memorise exact drug doses for PPH, eclampsia, sepsis, and thrombosis.
  • Practice breaking bad news (miscarriage, trisomy, cancer) using spikes until it feels natural.
  • You must familiarise yourself with the updated EBCOG standards

Practice this system without fail, and the EFOG OSCE becomes predictable from unpredictable.
