EBCOG EFOG Part 1

The EBCOG EFOG Part 1 is the first of two examinations conducted by the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The exam tests the theoretical foundation of aspirants, especially in applied basic science and principles of obstetrics and gynaecology, ensuring that the candidates are well-versed in core OB-GYN knowledge.

EFOG -EBCOG  Part 1 Examination Format

  • Number of Papers: Two papers (Obstetrics and Gynaecology)
  • Exam Pattern: Extended Matching Questions (EMQs), Single Best Answer Questions (SBAs), and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Marking Scheme: One mark for each correct MCQ; no negative marking
  • Exam Duration: 6 hours (3 hours per paper)

Eligibility Criteria to Sit for the EFOG -EBCOG Part 1 Exam

  • Candidates must have a primary medical degree; they must be medical doctors.
  • Candidates must be listed on the Register of Medical Practitioners of their own country.
  • Candidates can sit for the Part 1 examination after completing at least 3 years in their training programme.
  • Candidates who become eligible for the Part 2 examination should take EFOG EBCOG Part 2 within a period of 3 years. Once this period has expired or if candidates fail to pass Part 2 within 3 years, they will be required to re-sit Part 1.
  • Candidates will be asked to provide evidence of good standing from their Medical Council (Regulatory Medical Body), Employing Authority, or Head of Department.
  • Candidates must provide evidence of their clinical experience and postgraduate training since graduation.
  • Candidates must certify that they are not currently suspended or removed from medical practice by any Medical Council, hospital, or relevant authority.
  • Candidates must also confirm that they are not involved in any disciplinary procedure related to their clinical practice anywhere in the world—or provide full details of any pending cases.
  • Candidates must have a compatible laptop (PC or MacBook), which they must bring to the examination.

Documents Required While Submitting Your EFOG -EBCOG Application

Scanned and countersigned copies of the following documents must be submitted:

  1. Basic medical degree certificate
  2. Registration with the National Medical Council (Licence to Practise)
  3. Photocopy of passport or identity card
  4. Proof of clinical experience (scanned copies of evidence for each appointment)
  5. Evidence of good standing
